Be positive

You know, Granite, it is great to have you in the leadership role. You are a real inspiration and your words of wisdom are appreciated. I liked your blog and I do see "where you're coming from." I think what we're seeing now is a real test of character for the American people. We've had such a long period of prosperity with a booming economy and all of the trappings that go with it - fabulous homes, cars, sports and entertainment, electronics, vacations, etc. And now, our economy has really taken a tumble and things are as bad here as they are in many countries that have not achieved the quality of life as we have. It is very easy to see only the negatives right now. To moan and complain about the things we can't do much about - Wall Street, the auto manufacturers, banks, real estate, unemployment, healthcare, etc. Or we can adjust our attitude away from the negativity and be more positive about things. 7% unemployment still translates to 93% employment, better than most of the world. Our standard of living is still among the world's highest, certainly far better than most African, South American, Asian countries. My feeling is that the American people should count their blessings and that the true character of the American people should surface - a willingness to face the problems head on, be willing to make sacrifices, work harder and smarter, and show some of the character traits we are stressing like compassion, benevolence, enthusiasm, endurance, forgiveness, generosity, responsibility etc. Instead of standing around the water cooler complaining, let's get positive and show that the Spirit of America is strong. That's my take.
