Deference

Ob. Marble and you are off to a pretty good start and I think the idea is very sound. We should have been much more specific in the character traits we were stressing though our 20 are by no means all of the good character traits that there are. I looked at Deference: respectfully yielding to the judgment, opinion, or will of another as an interesting one. Sometimes, this is very tough to do. In politics, when deference is exercised properly, the two parties "cross the aisle" and work with one another to solve problems rather than being so rigid and not seeking the judgement or opinion or will of the other side. Parents are often so rigid with rules that they forget to listen to their kids and realizing that they do have good judgment, valid opinions and strong will. And management oftimes loses sight of the fact that their employees and good judgement and valid opinions - and it would be good sometime to defer to their judgement and opinions. I see statesmen like Sen. Lugar, Sen. Lieberman, Sen. Clinton and our new President-elect Barack Obama as people who exercise deference - and it gives me comfort to know that they are representing us. This is fun. Keep it up.
