Amp. Good comment. We all agree with you. Deeds are important. But don't forget about monuments and their importance to society and culture. Great observations. Challenging statements and not taking them for granted is something that should always be done. I was reading about how Neal H. Mayerson, Chairman of VIA Institute on Character has taken on the media and suggested strongly that Media must improve coverage of character and he used the presidential campaign as an example. "It's time to get serious about how we discuss the issue of character in the presidential campaign, given that an AP-Ipsos poll indicated that 55% of voters say they make their choice primarily on how they perceive the candidate's character traits. We need to move off of superficial treatments of the subject and demand that the media cover the dimension of the race in sufficient detail." Now that we have two candidates with totally different philosophies as to how we handle the problems facing us, we need to make sure also that the character of each candidate is assessed closely also. As Dr. Mayerson added, "Character is measured on balance, not per incident. It is a trend, not an event." And the media should be responsible in presenting the best look possible at the character of the candidates as well as their positions. Just my thoughts. What do you think?
