Campaign Funding

I read in the paper that Barack Obama's 1.5 million donors were a "financial spigot that was just too rich to turn down." Obama is the first candidate in a major party since Watergate ('76) to bypass public funds for the general election. Previously, Obama was strongly in favor of taxpayer funding so that he could operate within a system designed to reduce the influence of money in politics. His comment: "The public financing of presidential elections as it exists today is broken, and we face opponents who've become masters at gaming this broken system." McCain's response was that "Obama said he would stick to his word. He didn't. This election is about a lot of things. It's also about trust. It's about keeping your word." Last year, Obama vowed to "aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election." Bottom line, as we Little Rox have been blogging, this Presidential election should be as much about CHARACTER as the issues of the economy, Iraq, terrorism, healthcare, etc. While these blogs should not be political, I feel that it is our duty, our responsibility to point our issues of character - and trust is certainly one of them. That's the way I feel anyway. How about you guys?
