Gneiss. Interesting perspective on Campaign Funding. We need to be very careful that we do not get too political in these blogs and we always must stay fair and objective. I understand the point you made about
Obama rejecting taxpayer funding after he had raised about 2 1/2 times the money at McCain, but did not reject taxpayer funding while McCain was ahead in raising funds. There's something amiss. But what I find equally disturbing is that thus far, Obama has raised $265,000,000 for his campaign while McCain has raised $115,000,000 for his campaign. Think about this. $380,000,000 raised thus far to spend on advertising and marketing to win an election. The number will probably exceed $500,000,000! And this is while we are spending more than $4 a gallon on gas, prices are increasing on everything, homes have been destroyed and peoples' lives are in chaos because of the tornados and floods in the Midwest, people continue to suffer the pains of Hurricane Katrina in the south, Seniors cannot afford healthcare and their medications, we need funding for our war on terrorism and to care for our veterans - and candidates are spending a half billion dollars campaigning? Am I missing something? Isn't there something wrong with this picture. What could we do with a half billion dollars? Why couldn't the campaign be operated for 20% of that with TV networks providing debate time, free commercials, local communities sponsoring town hall meetings and campaign appearances, etc. Somehow, we were able to elect Washington, Lincoln,
FDR, Kennedy, Eisenhower, Reagan etc without spending a half billion dollars - and I think we selected some pretty good presidents. What do you guys think?
