Gangs and Drugs

Thanks for changing the subject Marble. I think we're going to have a summer and fall commenting on character and politics, but there's a lot of other stuff out there that we should be aware of - and it is incumbent upon us to include it in the dialogue. Your blog about Y-Lead is great. I saw an article about something happening in Greenboro, NC. It said, "It's summer. It's not just TV or video games, but also drugs, alcohol and gangs. A local business owner has teamed up with a child advocate to give teens a chance at success. Carmine Pagnano owns Carolina Acceleration, where young athletes get rigorous training for everything from baseball to football to track. But it's about more than sports. Pagano invites youth dealing with life challenges to come work out, where they also work with mentor Thomas Barksdale.
"We talk about character. We talk about virtues and we talk about being good young men," Barksdale said. Pagano said, "Those are the character traits that successful businessmen have to have, successful means dads have to have." We need more of this in the summer programs and these examples are nice to see. We're getting someplace...not fast...but we are making progress.
